As someone who works in a treatment center that has mentally retarded clients, in a mentally retarded unit with a therapist for the mentally retarded, I can say with a little bit of experience that the proper terminology is mentally RETARDED. Oh, and sure you can CHOOSE to be offended by something. But I would be just as offended if someone was ignorant (and yes, the OP was definitely ignorant in her posting as were the resulting defensive posters) enough to ask a "gay" treasury question. Please, people stop and think sometimes.
