I think if a woman is grabbing at her two dogs that got loose two houses down, one would think you'd realize she was trying to get them back home, that it was an accident.

Exactly. The neighbor is a bitch, not to mention a moron.

I am an extremely responsible pet owner.
If I see someone struggling to capture their loose dogs, I would join in and help the person. I certainly would never choose that time to deliver a condescending lecture.

Now if this was a habit, I would probably give a little lecture "after" the dogs were caught about how they need to fix the fence, put up a baby gate by the front door or whatever, but to go off on a lecture when the owner is struggling to catch her dogs and this is the FIRST time they ever got loose??

Oh and would someone PLEASE knock weesandy off her high horse! She probably identifies with the bitchy neighbor as she continually acts that way in the forums. No doubt she's been on the receiving end of many F bombs in her daily life.

She always mentions that she's old. Old does not = a free pass to be a holier than thou, stick up the ass, condescending, rude, obnoxious bitch, does it? God it would suck to be her neighbor!

Weesandy, why do the forum rules apply to everyone else, but you?

Lets play this out another way:

Today my neighbors dogs got out and killed the cute little rabbit that lives in my rose bushes, it happened right in front of me! It was awful. I loved that bunny.

That is horrible Aunt Deb!

You can't blame the dog, and if it was an accident that it got out (i.e. not a constant problem and the owner is a responsible one), then I don't know how you can compare the two.

One of my dogs is "obsessed" with the rabbits in our yard. Before I let her out, I bang on the screen door like mad for the rabbits to hide. I would be devastated if she killed one of the rabbits.
I love that they live in our yard and enjoy seeing them and so far, we have all co-existed peacefully.

Now if the owner was in the wrong, continually neglects their dog and lets them run free, then that's another story. Yeah I would be mad as hell at the owner and probably would tell them so.

So sorry that happened and you witnessed it. RIP sweet bunny. :(

Thanks for not telling me to f*ck off Calpix! ( insert pun here)

My point was that we really dont have both sides, each story her's and my made up one are one sided.

That was my only point.

You own a dog, you should own a leash. End of story. Both said wrong things, but the first mistake was the dog owner's.

Wow, there are some self-righteous, horrible assholes in that thread.
(I say self-righteously, of course)

She wasnt out walking her dogs... she didnt let them out of the house... THEY RAN OUT... therefore, unless the dogs know how to put a leash on themselves, they wouldnt be leashed.

Its also animal nature and most dogs do hunt for smaller animals... circle of life and all that. No one wants to see it happen, but its in their nature to do so.

We may never know the WHOLE story, but if I had just come home, arms loaded with groceries, kicked open the front door and my dog charged out, It wouldnt be my fault. A mistake... yes... but certainly not purposely or vindictively done, and in no way would I deserve to be lectured by a know-it-all neighbor.

"Today my neighbors dogs got out and killed the cute little rabbit that lives in my rose bushes, it happened right in front of me! It was awful. I loved that bunny."

It still would have been a mistake. Our pets do sometimes act unexpectedly and do things beyond our control. I would have told the neighbor to fuck off too.

A few months ago, my neighbor's dog was out in her front yard and ran into my yard. My dog charged out to meet it. I calmly picked up my dog and put her in my car until the neighbor retrieved her dog. I didn't bitch at her about keeping her dog in her yard or putting it on a leash.

Saturday afternoon, I went hiking with my family, my two dogs were on leashes attached to the truck while we got our gear together. Someone's else's schnauzer came running over (it was on a leash and pulled out of the older woman's hand) to attack my dogs and my brother simply stepped between the animals, picked up the schnauzer, and handed it back to the male owner (presumably husband). My brother just smiled at the owner and told him he thought it was easier to pick up the one running then to try and grab the other two. Smiles and laughs were exchanged over the near miss, but nowhere did anyone get snarky. The schnauzer was easily at least 3x the size of my pup and could have ripped her to shreds. Did I point that out? No. It didn't even occur to me. This is where human understanding comes in for animal mischief.

If this was something that regularly happened it would be a different story but mistakes happen.
