I agree. It's like they're all preteens saying "dirty words" when their mommy isn't listening. From some of the threads in ETC you wouldn't think this was a place people conducted business.

seriously, how someone wishes to express themselves and represent their business is up to them. ETC has and always will be etsy's playground where we can escape from business based topics. Not all of us wish to discuss copyrights and promotions. besides I have made some great friends in etc from these so called immature people. hell, I am one of them. :)
I work in a very professional selling enviroment, and guess what some of the staff will make dick jokes. Some keep to themselves, some spend their days judging others, some just do their job,and so on and so on...that's life.

I understand that etc is the "water cooler" so to speak, and I have no problem with that. The issue is that unlike real water cooler sections, ETSY's etc is extremely public.
October 2, 2009 at 2:15:00 PM EDTI'm no prude, I like to joke and play around as much as anybody else. I'm no stranger to a cuss word or two either. With that said I still believe in a time and place for things, and I have a sense of what's appropriate even when I'm just chillin.
Sometimes it is a matter of just letting people do their thing whether you agree to it or not, but when is enough enough? We all have our own personal boundaries of what will discuss with a bunch of internet bff's. Like people come into etc and talk about all their personal business. I think it's lame, but whatever it doesn't reflect on anyone but them. However if you're being immature, over-the-top or what have you, then don't be surprised to be called out on it.
Maybe we should change the name to Etc: You've Been Warned.
October 2, 2009 at 3:05:00 PM EDTPersonally I'm not big on seeing adolescent potty-mouthery in the titles (I'm just over mindless shock-value by now), but I enjoy trouble-makers finding ways around the Etsy's reasonable efforts to keep the titles semi-clean.
Lighten up, folks; it's just body-parts. And the more folks twist their panties, the more others are encouraged to find ways of making you twist them.
And if you're really worried about how users affect business here, try concentrating your outrage on mistagging and resellers, hm?

October 2, 2009 at 11:09:00 PM EDTThere is already negative press out there about Etsy that its all crappy handmade stuff, and people aren't taken as seriously as they should-all because a few people have crappy handmade stuff out of the many who have great product. All it takes is a big story of how this crap goes on in the forums, and everyone is going to be embarrassed to say they are a part of Etsy because of these few.
If you want to be unprofessional and present that level of immaturity, then go somewhere else where it doesn't reflect badly on everyone else that is trying to be professional. For most people its a hobby thing, but there are some of use that make our livings off of these shops!
Its selfish and inconsiderate.
Hey, let's all use the word peanut in place of penis! It sounds cuter than penis ... is socially acceptable ... and you some penises are about the size of peanuts, so it has a factual ring to it. For instance, the thread in question would have been titled Peanut Love, and while no one could possibly object to loving a peanut, those in the know could get their snickers!

What "cheapens Etsy" is the yard-sale crap, the tag-abuse, and the resellers.
And if you think the words "penis" or "cunt" in the basement forum is a potential "big story", I suggest you get out more. Our forums are unbelievably tame, and the news ain't gonna care.

As long as there is an "audience" out there that like the same topics, then they will continue "talking" like that........ Go join another forum where that kind of "humor" is acceptable.....there's not many on Etsy willing to stand up to all of you, that's why you feel it's ok because you got your "homies" willing to back you up. Grow up! This is a site to sell things...I'm sure there are many of you that don't want religion or politics or "lifestyle" choices forced down your throat....I don't want to see your immature rantings.......yeah, I stay out of Etc. because I don't want to be associated with that "group". But don't put "us" down that happen to think it's not appropriate behavior for Etsy.

As you just pointed out, you seem to be in the minority here. I'm sure you all could find a forum which doesn't allow WHAT IS ALREADY ALLOWED HERE.
Etsy admin sets the rules and they decided that we needed an ETC section. This is not the first penis thread nor will it be the last. there are many more and most of them never got closed. For whatever reason this one got closed. I'm still not sure why because it is tame by other standards of threads that are still open but long since buried. If you don't like this stuff don't click on those threads or just don't visit ETC.
