the word CUNT is not hurting Etsy's business.
There are lots of other things that could threaten it, but naughty language is not one of them.
And no one's going to see that thread unless they look long and hard and know what they are looking for and are keenly aware of how the forums work. Or they come here, and most people who visit etsy barely know there are forums, let alone Closed threads.
Grandma Miller with her toddler on her lap isn't going to happen across the cunt thread by accident.
So let's unbunch our panties, not get hysterical about one word sinking the ETSY ship, and stop reading the naughty threads if you don't like them. There's plenty of unicorn farts and rainbows in the forums for you to enjoy without pissing on the party for everyone else.
Etsy provides the forums for its sellers and buyers. As the provider of the forums, they have the right to specify what kinds of words they don't want to see in thread titles.
October 2, 2009 at 1:13:00 PM EDTI see the threads sort of like mature listings. Mature listings are allowed, but the first image that people see can't show the "mature" part. Similarly, discussion of all sorts of things are allowed, but the thread title must not contain certain banned words.
It's not about children or panties in a bunch or etsy's business... it's about etsy's rules.
maybe this is just me, but i love FOW! as artist we think in a way that we always have to push the envelope and break boundaries. If you put a limit or censer on us, we are going to break it, as FOW did.

Figuring out a way to outsmart a word filter is similar to an MIT prank? Hardly. Labeling yourself an "artist" and as such, it is in your nature to break free from the tyrannical censorship of Etsy? Right, and my name is Nelson Mandela. Just admit it, you think it's funny to see the words "fucking" and "cunt" in a forum title and extra thrill is derived from poking the mods with a stick. You may find it highly entertaining while others see it as an oddly puerile way to waste time.

Most of all though the whining and "ZOMG people will see the THREAD! and ETSY will lose business" is just plain stupid. The thread disappears and only the people checking here will find it.

The Etsy Forum has never been geared for the kiddos. Perhaps parents should be monitoring their child's internet activity a little more closely, instead of expecting the world to police it for them.

I hadn't seen FOW's post about being terminal and so I didn't know she was terminal. I know now, and you saw my response: hope that she's feeling ok and wishing her the best.
